Friday April 10th I decided to build a bridge. I walked to the place the road washed out with Gokey the day before. He allowed as how it would be good to fill in the road again, but difficult to pack it properly. And I didn’t think it would happen any time soon. I like riding my bike all the way around the place, so I decided to build a footbridge/bike bridge. I looked at some designs for bike bridges online, but decided to use my own methods. The bike bridges for public bike trails are made with several strong people to move them around. I had to make mine by myself, so assembled in place was the only way. Gokey and I measured that it was 7 feet across at the culvert, but the edges were unstable. The longer the bridge the better. But 10’ is all that will fit in my car. So that’s how long I decided to make the main bridge span. I went to the store with several plan choices. I got the prices of several different materials and picked the combination that came out to around $46 for lumber and $20 for screws. I ended up using screws I already had and returned those screws for an $18 box of nails (I still have most of them). Total price for the bridge, about $75.
