Seemed like the right day to post something about spiders.

I went paddling with Stephen Leacock on Friday, October 9, 2009. It was in the high 80’s and very humid. Since swimming was called for we went to the Ichetucknee State Park even though it’s 150 miles from Tallahassee. Steve was going to Gainesville for the weekend anyway, so it was on his way. I met him at his house Friday morning. We left as soon as he got his last minute work squared away. We checked out the main South entrance to the park and then decided to drive back up the road to the entrance right by the river bridge. We found a few parking spaces and a dirt road to drive down to unload the boats near the walkway to the dock. We launched from a dock designed to scoop up large quantities of tubers in the summer. After passing under some power lines going to an adjoining substation we got to the prettiest river you ever did see. We only saw a few tubers floating down, and a few rented kayaks and canoes. Nobody else was paddling upstream.
